Mission Statement
Take Back Bard is a movement fighting to protect survivors of sexual violence and gender-based misconduct by creating a democratic campus. We believe we can achieve this only by demanding greater transparency and power within our institution.
Take Back Bard is an organization composed of students, faculty and staff dedicated to a safer campus which includes but is not limited to:
Creating a democratic campus and complete transparency and oversight for the Board of Trustees.
Leon Botstein removed from campus.
Lookback period for former Bard students, staff and faculty to come forward with their experiences and treatment at Bard.
Community organization and support groups for survivors of sexual violence.
Those identified as abusers being properly investigated.

OCTOBER 2026
During his lengthy tenure as president of Bard College, Leon Botstein encouraged and facilitated a culture of sexual violence. Upon vacating the president's house, he retreated to Finburg House - a vibrant intellectual hub where professors would debut new works, undergo orientation and host guest speakers. Bard is a meaningful and unique institution that provides education and opportunities to countless communities across the globe. But, right now, our tuition is being used to the foot the bills of our disgraced ex-president, who is without a doubt an enemy to public safety.
For our safety as a student body, we need Botstein out now.
